About Us
Hamiltonhill Action Group is the organisation which represents tenants and residents within the Hamiltonhill area of Glasgow.
We address issues of common concern in the neighbourhood.
We meet regularly to discuss matters on the estate, holding our meetings in the street for all neighbours to participate.
Hamiltonhill as an area has been forgotten by the city council, receiving poor to very little services in terms of routine maintenance of the streets, landscaping and the built environment that the council is responsible for.
Hamiltonhill’s major landlord, the GHA, has underspent budgets in the area for a number of years. The landlord has made no capital investment for a number of years. They have a stated wish to demolish the scheme, regardless of residents wishes. The council will then own the land. This is the condition of stock transfer to the GHA; after demolitions take place, the control of the land, where houses stood, returns to the council. The council mean to build exclusively private housing in the area.
Queens Cross Housing Association, which means to ballot tenants in Hamiltonhill on the question, settling the issue, intends to control the land, and build upon it too. If they gain control over houses in the area, they also intend to demolish our homes.
So then, there are a lot of issues for our small neighbourhood to deal with.
And that is why we are here.
We have produced a programme, after discussions and consultation at open community meetings and thru a survey we conducted. We mean to implement it. We mean business.
It’s time Hamiltonhill stopped being messed with. It’s time control over the destiny of our community was returned to local residents.
